2 nd International Workshop on the Socio-Economics of Ageing
Date: 4 November 2011
Place: ISEG, Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, PORTUGAL
Organisers: Paula Albuquerque and Francisco Nunes
Keynote Speaker: Alfonso Sousa-Poza, University of Hohenheim and Research Fellow at IZA (Institute for the Study of Labor), Germany
Deadline for submission of abstracts: 31 May 2011
The world is ageing rapidly. The ageing of societies is a central issue in most social sciences. The analysis of the challenges and opportunies that are offered to today’s policy markers is crucial to guarantee an adequate welfare level in the future.
A country's economic prospects may change with population ageing as a result of the different needs and productive capacities of different age groups. Ageing also affects intergenerational relations, living arrangements and attitudes.
In this workshop we want to consider both the economic dimension and the social process of ageing societies.
This workshop intends to bring together a group of researchers who are interested in the socio-economics of ageing. They will have the opportunity to present and discuss scientific papers and, if willing, to establish an international network to communicate and study together.
We welcome submission of theoretical, empirical and policy papers. The suggested topics include, but are not necessarily limited to, the relation between population ageing and the following topics:
Life-cycle consumption and saving profiles.
Labour market behaviour.
Well-being or happiness.
The economic status of the elderly.
Poverty, income distribution inequality, and social exclusion.
Living arrangements and care arrangements.
Intergenerational transfers, both public and private.
Effects on the family.
Proposals containing the title, name(s) of author(s), institutional affiliation(s) and an extended abstract (2-3 pages) should be submitted by e-mail to [log in to unmask] until the 31st of May 2011. Decisions will be taken shortly after that.
