WELCOME II - MARIE CURIE FELLOWSHIPS IN ASTROPHYSICS

The Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics of the University of Lisbon
(CAAUL) at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon is
seeking interested researchers working in the field of Galaxy Formation
and Evolution for joint applications to the Welcome II Programme in
Portugal.

The Welcome II Programme promotes the mobility of postdoctoral
researchers holding the nationality of a EU Member State (or FP7
Associated Country) and having carried out research in non-EU countries
for the last 3 years (or having recently returned to Europe after 3
years abroad) to join portuguese institutions. Beneficiaries of the
programme will be Marie Curie Fellows with 3 year employment contracts
matching index 195 or 220 of the portuguese Scientific Research Career,
depending on experience. The salary costs include base salary (between
roughly 2900 and 3300 gross, per month), vacation and Christmas
supplements, food subsidy, social security and costs of unemployment
compensation, plus an initial travel and mobility allowance of 1600,
5000 yearly for research costs and 5000 yearly for host institution
overheads.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in astronomy/astrophysics, a solid
curriculum, be highly motivated for research in the field of Galaxy
Formation and Evolution and conform to the regulations of the Welcome II
programme. Experience in radio interferometry principles, observations
and algorithms for data processing is highly desirable.

The successful candidates will actively contribute to the local
development of expertise in radio-interferometry that will potentiate
CAAUL's participation in the development and exploitation of future
facilities such as ASKAP, MeerKAT, ALMA, Westerbork-Apertif and the SKA,
currently being performed under the path2ska@PT program
(http://path2ska.org). Extensive interaction with other international
groups will occur and an adequate travel allowance will be available.

Interested researchers should contact Dr. Jose Afonso
([log in to unmask]) as soon as possible and before the end of February
2011 to explore the application procedure.

For information about the research project, the host institution and the
Welcome II program, please consult:
