medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Beautiful story which should definitely be included in modern-day children's literature and set as a musical (opera).
Sorry I can only comment and not help.

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I just got a note from someone asking if I knew anything more about
this legend. Well, I don't, but I know I did run across a reference
to it --maybe 20 years ago?
"child dog of Lyons, France." A woman's baby died and she adopted a
new born puppy. She suckled it like a human infant, dressed it in
baby clothes, and taught it to speak. They lived happily for a
number of years. The woman died. When she was ill, the dog never
left her side. When she died, the dog said, "Without your ear, I
have no tongue." The dog never uttered another sound.
Does anyone have any further information?
Rochelle
