Research Assistant position (predoctoral) for 4 years (30 hours per week) from February 2011 at the Institute of Communication Science, University of Vienna.
The job: Dissertation in the field of Media Governance; active cooperation in the establishment of international networks, provide support in the everyday management of the International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics.
You will be working closely with Professor Dr. Katharine Sarikakis and support the Chair in the field of media structures, media organisation, media governance.
Your profile: you are a university graduate in Communication or Media Studies/Sciences or other cognate discipline, such as Political Sciences with focus on Media and/or International Communication.
You have a thorough understanding of and knowledge in policy analysis and political economy of the media and good knowledge of European Integration. You are fluent in English and can demonstrate a successful and very good trajectory of academic performance. It is an advantage if you can speak one more language, such as Spanish.
Non-German speakers are expected to learn German during their term of study, although the thesis need not be written in German. You are experienced in working with word documents, SPSS or similar programmes and it would be an advantage if you have knowledge of NViVo or similar.
You will work on the topic of European Media Policy and International Organisations in the era of Globalisation. We would welcome a proposal outline (3 pages) within this area of study.
