The film "The Other Bank" is very much worth a look - and pretty sobering
(not set in South though)

(also not sure how easy to get hold off -was shown at Bath Film Festival)
Cheers

Subject: Films on aspects of international development and social change
Hi
I'm involved in a team putting together a new undergraduate module that will
focus on geographical approaches to international development and social
change. Some of the topics the module will cover include: development and
international financial institutions; poverty, famine, and hunger; social
development and participatory and community-based approaches; and
development as capacity building. The module will explore social and
cultural geographical approaches.
I would like to incorporate some films (documentary and/or fiction) within
the module, as a means of looking at representations of development and
social change, for discussion by students. However, my knowledge of films
that address the topics listed above is fairly limited! Can anyone recommend
films (in English language or with English subtitles) that engage with some
of the issues associated with these topics?
(n.b. the module text book will be 'Geographies of Developing Areas: the
Global South in a Changing World' by Williams, Meth & Willis (2009) ).
Happy to collate and share the results with the list.
Many thanks,
Sarah
