Preservation Advisory Centre training day, 2 February 2011
British Library Centre for Conservation, 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB
Are you looking for cost-effective ways of preventing damage to collections?
Library and archive collections are there to be used but retrieval, imaging and general handling in reading rooms can all take their toll on the materials. This training day is aimed at library and archive staff with responsibility for writing, or putting into practice, handling and use policies.
The day focuses on the communication of good handling practices for the preservation of library and archive collections. It outlines methods of promoting good handling practices within organisations and to users, and provides information and example guidance materials to support library and archive staff with the implementation of handling policies. It is led by Jane Pimlott and Sarah Hamlyn of the British Library.
At the end of the day, participants will:
Understand the vulnerability of different library and archive materials to different types of use
Be able to write or review a policy for handling and use
Select and use pieces of equipment to improve the handling and use of books
Have knowledge of a range of methods of communicating handling and use practice
Feel confident to explain to staff and readers the reasons for handling and use guidelines
Cost: £95.00 + VAT including lunch and refreshments
