Longitudinal Data Analysis Course on 2nd - 3rd June
Date: 2nd June - 3rd June 2011
Course Leader: Prof. Peter Diggle
Course Description
The course introduces important ideas and methods in the analysis of data from
longitudinal studies, whether in the form of repeated measurements,
time-to-event outcomes or a combination of the two. The emphasis is on concepts
rather than technical detail. Theoretical ideas will be motivated by, and
applied to, data from a clinical trial of drug treatments for schizophrenia
patients in which the repeated measurements are an assessment of the mental
health of each subject at pre-specified times and the time-to-event outcome is
dropout from the study.
Lab sessions will use a combination of standard and specially written R
functions
(see http://www.R-project.org) to reinforce the concepts introduced in the
lecture sessions.
Participants should have had some previous exposure to core ideas in statistical
modelling and inference. Previous exposure to repeated measures analysis,
survival analysis and R is desirable, but not essential. Suggestions for
background reading are listed below.
Funding support from the UK Economic and Social Research Council and from the UK
Medical Research Council is gratefully acknowledged.
