Medical sociologists may be interested in this call for proposals from
the Institution for Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH:
Health and safety in a changing world: our research programme sets out
to explore the landscape of occupational safety and health and its
implications for developing solutions that provide effective protection
for workers and their communities and support economic success.
We're inviting proposals in the following three areas:
*Occupational safety and health knowledge and its management*
This project will have two parts addressing the following key questions:
* is there a coherent knowledge base for occupational safety and
health interventions?
* how is knowledge currently used in occupational safety and health
practice and how could this be improved?
We may fund the first element of the project, lasting up to nine months,
with an indicative budget of £35,000-£50,000, or both parts as one
project lasting up to three years, with an indicative budget of
£250,000-£300,000.
*The balance between public and private sources of regulation*
This project will explore the sources of occupational safety and health
regulation in the changing world of work and the external constraints
that need to be managed. We're looking for a two year project with an
indicative budget of £200,000-£250,000.
*The local impact of the changing health and safety system*
This project will investigate who does what about health and safety
issues, on the basis of what evidence, and how what's done leads to
particular results. We're looking for a two-year project with an
indicative budget of £200,000-£250,000.
