With regard to the MARC DISCUSSION PAPER NO. 2010-DP05
<http://www.loc.gov/marc/marbi/2010/2010-dp05.html>
quoted in the MARC PROPOSAL NO. 2011-01 - DATE: December 14, 2010
<http://www.loc.gov/marc/marbi/2011/2011-01.html>
the question has been raised since 2007 by the Online Audiovisual Catalogers (OLAC)
http://www.olacinc.org/drupal/?q=node/36
and no case study or further initiative has been developed in the meantime as far as I know.
I would rather reformulate the question taken into account:
1) The fact that MARC is considered "approaching the end of its life cycle" (OCLC Research <www.oclc.org/research/publications/library/2010/2010-06.pdf>). It seems quite risky to add subfields instead of review the need of new specifications from the point of view of an entity-attribute / relationships model.
2) Evidences emerging from surveys carried out in diverse Countries and reported in LIS literature confirm that there is chance to engage users in this type of task (i.e. adding tags as well as data related to contents' details of a specific expressions or manifestation of a given work). That means there is chance to approach the issue from a process redesign point of view.
