*POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW *

Australian School of Petroleum, The University of Adelaide

Job Reference Number: 3338

The Australian School of Petroleum at the University of Adelaide is
seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Geomechanics to join a world-class
research team within the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas
Technologies (CO2CRC). The CO2CRC is working to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions through the capture and geological storage of CO_2 .
The successful applicant is expected to undertake basic research and
build and run geomechanical models of potential sites for geological
storage of CO_2 (e.g. assessing effects of CO_2 injection on
deformation, seal integrity and fault & fracture stability). This
position will likely require some training on specialized geomechanical
software. This person will perform CO2CRC geoscience research at the
Australian School of Petroleum as part of a geomechanics team, although
location at some of our partner institutions could be considered. The
Australian School of Petroleum is host to a leading academic research
group in geomechanics and in-situ stress. The successful applicant will
benefit from this group to develop his or her personal academic profile.
This fixed-term position is available immediately, initially until 30
June 2013 (with potential for extension).

You should have:

   * A PhD (or equivalent experience) in geology, geophysics or related
field, although applicants from fields requiring numerical and
computational modelling skills would be considered (ie,
engineering, physics or applied mathematics background).
   * Experience in one or more of the following fields: petrophysics
     (incl. poroelastic theory), geomodelling, numerical/computational
modelling, applied geomechanics or reservoir modelling.
   * Demonstrated written and oral communication skills in English (ie.
peer reviewed publications, reports or presentations to
     industry/academia at conferences).

Salary: (Level A)$52,798 - $71,650 per annum, plus attractive
superannuation benefits.

Further information may be obtained from Guillaume Backé, telephone (08)

Applications, addressing the selection criteria, quoting reference
number 3338, and including the names, addresses and/or email details of
three referees, should be forwarded electronically to Maxine Drenth
