Hmm, most of my USB sticks were gifts at conferences etc. Several of
them have never been used to save anything *additional* on them.

Will there come a time when people start counting other portable media
in this sort of survey?
Both my recent and previous laptops have sockets for SD memory cards,
for example. As does my camera and handheld movie camera. My 3G dongle
has a micro-SD socket which allows me to swap one of those cards between
it and my phone.
Although mainly containing photos and other "multimedia", these memory
cards do occasionally get used for conventional data, and potentially
are just as easy to misplace.
