Dear list members,
I am writing because I'm interested in getting into the bioinformatics field for graduate studies, yet the university I attend doesn't offer undergraduate courses specifically in bioinformatics. My current programme is computing science with a minor in mathematics (concentration in statistics.) What I am confused about is the biology aspect - what courses/things should I be concentrating on? My current academic adviser is not helpful here, and the institution I attend doesn't have anyone specifically in the field. I have approached several biology professors, but they seem to not be interested in the computing side.
Sorry for the long winded question, but basically I am looking for topics of study within biology I should be focusing on so I can possibly study bioinformatics at the graduate level (obviously at a different institution.) Luckily, these biology courses will also count toward my "out of faculty" credits, so I can kill two birds with one stone so to speak - I just want to be smart about it.
Thanks,
Richard.
