Chris Dibben (Administrative Data Liaison Service & Dept. of Geography,
University of St Andrews) - The use of administrative datasets in the
teaching of statistics.
Mark Brown (Cathie Marsh Centre, University of Manchester) - Tapping a
gold mine of real survey data: resources for students and teachers in
the Social Sciences.
John MacInnes (Sociology, University of Edinburgh) - Using Online
resources for teaching quantitative methods.
This event will introduce participants to a range of resources and
effective practice in teaching quantitative methods and statistics to
students at graduate level. The morning will consist of three expert
lectures: Mark Brown will discuss the resources available from the
Economic and Social Data Service; Chris Dibben will talk about the use
of administrative datasets in teaching; and John MacInnes will cover the
use of online resources as a means of teaching statistics.
The afternoon will involve practical workshops from Mark and John, who
will demonstrate existing resources and highlight how these are used for
teaching. Chris will provide a drop-in clinic for those interested in
finding out more about administrative data.
