Salary in the Range:
£23,566 to £26,523 pa for Research Associate
£27,319 to £35,646 pa for Research Fellow
(Appointments are usually made on the first point of the salary range)
Fixed Term Contract until 30 September 2013
You will be part of a multidisciplinary research based team working under the direction of Professor Martin Underwood, Professor of Primary Care Research. You will be working on secondary analyses of datasets from randomised controlled trials of conservative treatments for low back pain. The overall aim of the project is to use pooled datasets to identify sub-groups of patients with low back pain who will gain the greatest benefit from different treatment approaches.
You will primarily responsible for the statistical aspects of the project and will be expected to develop, and apply, novel approaches to sub-group identification in clinical trials. You will also contribute to the design and conduct of systematic reviews and to the acquisition and management of trial datasets from other research groups to include in the analyses. It is anticipated that your work will be published in clinical and statistical journals.
You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. For appointment at Research Fellow level, you will have a PhD (or equivalent) in statistics, epidemiology or other closely related subject. Experience of a range of analytical methods and of systematic reviews and meta-analyses is essential. A high level of statistical skills including competence in the use of statistical packages, such as SAS or STATA is also essential as is experience of writing scientific reports for publication in journals.

The successful candidate will be working at new Warwick Clinical Trials Unit building which is funded by Advantage West Midlands through Birmingham Science City Translational Medicine, Clinical Research and Infrastructure Trials Platform.
