You are exactly right. My experience as a Chartered Surveyor is that we must charge a proffessional rate and that a worker is worthy of his hire. Day rate is and always has been what I call slackers rate. Someone on day rate will take at least twice as long and bill accordingly. Like the builders I once and I stree only once. contracted on day rate. They turned up 9.30am, both went for bacon sandwiches at 9.45,m returned at 10.30 had a brew till 11.0am worked till 11.45 and went for an hour and a half lunch. Needless to say the same process was repeated in the afternoon. Result, no real work accomplished. I always price for the job at a fixed fee for a fixxed report. If the client then wants more then I quote accordingly. This is called proffessionalism and people have to pay for it. They can always go somewhere else if they want. However, I have never ever lost a client. Only the one's i don't want when I meet them innitially.

Hi Alyson
Adding to Paul and Martin's views the other things to consider are that a day rate is one thing but it is how much a consultant does in that day. Someone charging less who does less in the day is a false economy. There is also a relationship between on site data collection and writing up some form of access report. I tend to suggest to students that a rule of thumb is to allow 2 days writing up for every one day on site collecting data, although with practice this can become more 1 to 1. I would also suggest there will be differing rates based on geographical location and the amount of work available at any one time.
Regards
Marcus

Hi Alyson,
I don't know of any official price guide. In reality it would depend on a number of things.
Qualifications and experience required (NRAC, IEC, or other)
Number of properties to be audited (multiple sites give cost savings)
Sometimes the level of Professional Indemnity Insurance can impact on it
Programme (if there are multiple sites or out of hours access requirements)
As a ball park for estimating I Paul is on track.

Martin

I am trying to find if there is a flat rate scale for the cost of Access Auditing. Does anyone know where I can find this out, or can anyone give me the information?
Alternatively, would there be a cost for a 1/2 day or full day of auditing?
