Communications Assistant
Part-time (21 hours per week) - 3-6 month contract
£18,000-£20,000 pro-rata
The role
Deafness Research UK is seeking a part-time fixed-term contact post to assist with our advisory service and outreach and communications work. The role would suit someone looking to gain experience in a wide variety of communications activities, including publications, events and outreach, website and social media, and press and public relations.
We are looking for someone with good communications skills and who has empathy for our mission and values. This role helps to support our advisory service and involves dealing with members of the public as well as professionals.
Please see the job description on our website and read our latest annual review which outlines our work and achievements.
Background
Deafness Research UK is the only national charity dedicated to research into hearing loss. Our achievements include helping to bring digital hearing aids to the general public, improving cochlear implants to restore hearing to profoundly deaf people and developing a simple, painless test that allows deaf babies to be identified at birth.
We provide evidence-based medical information on a wide range of hearing problems to deaf and hard of hearing people, their families and health professionals involved in their care. Our Advisory Services offers information and advice via a free telephone helpline five days a week and is open from 9am-5pm, by email, through our website and outreach work.
Due to the successful full-time funding of our outreach project the Bionic Ear show, we are diverting our existing resources to this project for a period and now require a temporary, part-time post to assist with the advisory service enquiries and other communications aspects of our work.
