Having failed to really take part in this discussion, I thought I'd
cheekily nip in to invite you all to another 'linking museums' meetup on
December 16. This meetup is looking specifically at biography or
'people' records and is hopefully a chance to give feedback on some
sample mark-up produced at a working meeting earlier in the day (contact
me if you want to come to that).
It'll be a good chance to hear back from the Culture Hack Day on Dec 3,
and I'm also interested in discussing how we negotiate the needs of
different consumers of our data, from aggregators that need strict
adherence to published standards, to tinkerer-developers who don't want
to deal with anything more complicated than JSON, and hopefully also
internal consumers of our data.
The first two meetups (write-ups at http://bit.ly/b9AawP
http://bit.ly/bxyclK) were (IMO) a chance for some really useful
discussions with a range of people - the conversations I've had have
informed my understanding of what external developers consider makes our
data both 'usable' and 'useful' and helped me work out how to
communicate the kinds of issues we have to overcome to get them the data
they want with a licence they can use.
There's more information and an RSVP bit at http://bit.ly/dOaBav
cheers, Mia
