The British Library Preservation Advisory Centre and RLUK are pleased to announce a training day:
Handling for Digitisation
York: 18 February 2011
Library Offices
Harewood Way
University of York
YO10 5DD
http://www.bl.uk/blpac/digitise.html
Many organisations are digitising their collections in order to provide wider access and to ensure the long-term preservation of books and documents. This day has been designed to give an overview of how to set up a digitisation project and how to handle physical library and archive items which are being digitised.
By the end of the day participants will be able to:
* describe the factors that need to be considered when sourcing equipment;
* recognise whether a physical item is suitable for digitization;
* correctly handle materials during digitisation;
* identify the issues relating to digital preservation.
This event is part of a Preservation Learning Programme jointly sponsored by RLUK and the British Library Preservation Advisory Centre.
