The Centre for Film Studies at the University of St Andrews is hosting
two talks in the next fortnight.
On Friday 19 November we welcome John Simmons, a professional geologist
who wrote and directed over fifty science and technology programmes for
BBC Open University before founding the independent science-film
company, Geofilms. He is currently Executive Director of science
communication agency ON Communication. He will deliver a talk entitled
'Moving Image, Moving Minds and Do Horses Really Fly? A Personal View of
Science Filmmaking'.
Venue: Arts Lecture Theatre. Time: 15:00-16:00.
On Tuesday 23 November it is the turn of Serazer Pekerman, who will be
delivering a talk based on her recently submitted PhD thesis. Her
presentation, entitled 'Framed Intimacy in Transnational Cinemas' will
examine how internationally acknowledged auteurs like Lars von Trier,
Jafar Panahi, Zeki Demirkubuz and Abbas Kiarostami have used female
characters in order to create a Deleuze and Guattarian ‘molecular
resistance' against patriarchal regimes.
Venue: Arts Lecture Theatre. Time: 17:15-19:15.
Full details of both events are available at:

We hope to see you there!
