The Sydney Medical School is part of the University's Faculties of
Health, the largest and most comprehensive grouping of health and
medical education and research in the Asia Pacific region. The Asbestos
Diseases Research Institute <http://www.adri.org.au/>  (ADRI) was
established by the Asbestos Diseases Research Foundation (ADRF), a
charitable, not-for-profit foundation dedicated to assist and support
the research efforts of ADRI into asbestos-related diseases. The ADRI is
located in the Bernie Banton Centre on the Concord Hospital Campus. This
state-of-the-art research centre conducts translational research
projects and aims to contribute to preventative measures and improve
treatment and enhance the quality of life of those affected by
asbestos-related diseases.  

 

We are currently collaborating with the Cancer Epidemiology and Cancer
Services Research Group, a recently established partnership between the
University of Sydney and the Cancer Institute NSW, to develop a research
program in mesothelioma epidemiology. To this end we are seeking to
appoint a Senior Epidemiologist to take the lead in identifying research
opportunities in mesothelioma epidemiology and to develop and manage an
independent research program including the development of protocols and
methodology; establishment of database information on patients diagnosed
with mesothelioma; quantitative analyses of population-based datasets,
including linked administrative datasets; and preparation of research
publications and presentations, including peer-reviewed journal
articles. You will also be expected to apply for external funding to
further develop the mesothelioma epidemiology research program through
project grants.

 

To succeed you will have a PhD or equivalent in epidemiology,
biostatistics or public health with a strong component in
epidemiology/biostatistics along with extensive experience in
epidemiology or health services research of relevance to cancer. You
will have strong skills and extensive experience in the design and
analysis of observational or interventional epidemiological studies and
in the design and analysis of research studies using large,
population-based datasets or linked administrative datasets. Advanced
skills in biostatistical analyses and relevant statistical software
packages (SPSS, SAS, etc) or ability to develop these skills is
essential.

 

This role is a rare opportunity to join a vibrant and growing research
team within cancer epidemiology. You will have the chance to work with
leaders in the field and to further develop your own research profile.

 

 The position is full-time fixed term for three years subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition
of employment for new appointees.

 

Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications, skills
and experience.


Remuneration package: a competitive remuneration package is available
(consisting of a base salary, leave loading and up to 17% employer's
contribution to superannuation).
