Research Associate (Social Scientist)
Salary: £27,319-£35,646 pa
We are looking for an experienced researcher to work on this NIHR funded project, developing and evaluating very brief interventions to increase physical activity to be delivered by a practice nurse or other health professions. The post holder will assist in setting up fieldwork arrangements in a sample of GP practices, and potentially other locations where the Health Check is being offered (e.g. pharmacies), conduct observation research, recruit and carry out semi-structured interviews with a sample of patients and staff, combine an observational study with the set of interviews into a general data set for analysis, analyse the data using appropriate qualitative techniques, draft interim reports, present data at relevant academic events, and help write final outputs for publication.
You will have a good first degree in a relevant social science subject (such as sociology or social anthropology), plus a PhD, or equivalent research experience, that demonstrates relevant knowledge and skills. You will have experience of conducting ethnographic research and analysing qualitative data. Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to understand and convey complex information are essential, as is a flexible working approach and well developed interpersonal skills including negotiation and the ability to communicate across a range of disciplines.
Experience of research in a healthcare setting, using a qualitative data software application, such as NVivo, knowledge of theories of health-related behaviour, experience of working in a multidisciplinary team, plus a clean driving license would all be advantageous.
The post is for 18 months, full-time, and is available from 1st January 2011.
For further information about this post, including how to apply, please go to http://www.medschl.cam.ac.uk/gppcru/ and download the further particulars from Latest Posts.
The closing date is 24 December 2010.
Interviews will be held on 31 January 2011
