LEAN AND MEAN LIBRARY MACHINE
Doing more with less was a well-worn phrase even before the Comprehensive Spending Review was made public, but what does it really mean for university and college libraries? Come and share your own perspectives and hear about some practical solutions from:
• David Parkes (Associate Director for Learning Technology and Information Services - Staffordshire University) Examining and debating critical questions at this time of austerity, such as how does the library remain at the heart of an institution in times of rapid technological progress, serve a vibrant and diverse community, and create a new collegiality.
• Stuart Hunt (Data Services and Digital Production Manager - University of Warwick) Sharing experiences from Warwick in using products and techniques developed by Processfix to identify ways to streamline library practices and work more efficiently.
• Emma Cragg (Academic Support Librarian for Business, Management & Economics - University of Warwick) Reflecting on the impact of a reduction in library staff supporting an expanding Business School, talking about how the service has changed, how she manages the workload and what tools she uses to do this.
• Richard Wallis (Technology Evangelist - Talis) Investigating and considering established and emerging technologies, such as virtualisation and RFID, with the potential to deliver broad efficiencies in library services and processes.
Lean and Mean Library Machine is a half-day event, organised by CILIP UC&R Group West Midlands, taking place 12.30pm to 4.30pm on the afternoon of Thursday 9th December 2010 at the Lakeside Centre in Aston University, Birmingham.
Being lean and mean librarians ourselves, we’ve kept delegate rates down to a minimum – only £20 + VAT (£23.50) for CILIP members and £30 + VAT (£35.25) for non-members. The price includes lunch, sponsored by Talis, and afternoon refreshments. A free place is also available on a first-come, first-served basis for a student currently studying for a degree in library and information science or related discipline, in return for writing a short report of the event for publication.
An event booking slip is provided immediately below, and will also be made available, along with further event details, on the section website at http://www.cilip.org.uk/get-involved/special-interest-groups/ucr/divisions/west-midlands/pages/future.aspx
