Maybe a Chief Executive who can't convince an educated, intelligent
and provably flexible (when justified) workforce on a course of
action should look to their own position?
Currently reading "About Face" by the late David Hackworth. He
describes the approach sought from juniors by incompetent leadership
as "Can do, can't think". Real leaders value critical thought in
strategic planning, sometimes even when the answer is can't and shouldn't do.
That said I think the jury is out on current reforms, but to be 100%
clear the jury is not out on either NHS management or DH civil
service as organizations, however good some individuals in either
organization may be.
