Within a few days of initiating this campaign, we have close on 100
people on this list, 150 on the Facebook group and increasing numbers
of people writing to Russell Group VCs etc.
This is a quick update to say that we now have a website up and
running: http://publicuniversity.org.uk/
Please do join this Jiscmail list. You can do so by going to this
website and clicking on 'Subscribe':
https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=CAMPAIGNFORTHEPUBLICUNIVERSITY
And to join the Facebook group, if they have a Facebook account:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_161578773881877&ap=1#!/home.php?sk=group_161578773881877&ap=1
On the website, we have the following statement under 'About us' and
the beginnings of a list of the names of people who support this
campaign. Could you please let us know by replying to
[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
whether you are happy to have your name listed under this statement?
"The UK Campaign for the Public University is open to all. It is a
broad-based campaign with no party or other political affiliation. It
has been initiated by a group of university teachers and graduate
students seeking to defend and promote the idea of the university as a
public good. We believe that the public university is essential both
for cultivating democratic public life and creating the means for
individuals to find fulfillment in creative and intellectual pursuits
regardless of whether or not they pursue a degree programme."
Best wishes,
Campaign for the Public University
