Dear all

As you'll see from the message below, GCSG member Anja Moos is looking for volunteers -
both synaesthetes and non-synaesthetes - to take part in a (painless) experiment. Please
mail Anja at the address below if you think you can help.

Best wishes

Christian Kay

Hello everyone,

I'm very interested in the perception of people's voices, how we
describe them and how we remember them, as so much information is
carried in someone's voice - sometimes also misinterpreted. I'm a PhD
student of the University of Glasgow doing research on synaesthesia
that's triggered by speech in general, and now people's voices in
particular. So I set up an online experiment that asks for your
associations with different voices. I am curious to find out if
synaesthetes and non-synaesthetes have similar or different ways to
describe voices. In this experiment, voice samples are played to you
and you can then describe the voice in your own words, choose some
attributes, and pick a colour and a texture for that voice. You will
also do a short discrimination task where you have to decide which
voice sounds more similar to another one.

For this, I am looking for synaesthetes who have colour and/or texture
sensations with peopleīs voices, no matter what they are saying; itīs
about how they sound. The experiment takes about 1.5 hours and you
get a Ģ15 voucher from Amazon as a reimbursement (or an equivalent
amount in your home currency). You also have the option to save half
way through so that you can take a break. If you do have this form of
synaesthesia and are interested in taking part in that experiment,
please email me so that I can send you an invitation to the survey:

I am also looking for people who are NOT synaesthetes. So, if you
have any friends who are not synaesthetes and would like to get some
pocket money and are interested in doing the experiment, please send
them this link:

http://surveys.psy.gla.ac.uk/index.php?sid=69953&lang=en

This survey is slightly different to the one for synaesthetes, so itīs
important that this link is only used by non-synaesthetes.
Synaesthetes will get an invitation for their survey by email.

We are looking for native speakers of English only to start with. You
have to be 16 years or older for legal reasons and should have no
colour deficiency or other severe sight or hearing problems.

I am very curious about the results. Thank you very much in advance
for those taking part!

Best wishes,

Anja
