Tasos, I think you are right to suggest Wine as a temporary solution, but the very reason for this is to use the full capabilities of a 64-bit operating system. This would require Wine64, which is still at an early stage of development. Even then, I am not sure the efficiency would be sufficient.
I think the only real solution for this is for me to create an Ubuntu 64-bit port.
Technically, this shouldn't be too hard for me to create: as mentioned, Depthmap was originally compiled for Irix. The core code should be cross-platform (I say "should" as I develop on Windows and I may have been lazy!).
The front-end is a different matter: developed using Microsoft MFC, it will never go to Mac or Ubuntu (other than via Wine or equivalent), which is the reason I have always delayed a release.
In the spirit of just doing it, I'll see what I can do... it will be bare-bones user interface (possibly command line), but I realise there's a large community of Mac and Linux users who've waited (very patiently) a long time for it.
