Hello MCGers,
The Museum Professionals Group are currently looking for someone to take on the role of IT Officer as part of their committee, and I thought this group would be a good place to advertise for such a role.
Museum Professionals Group IT Officer
MPG is a membership organisation, founded in 1935, which reflects the interests and aspirations of people working in or for museums
What do we do?
Objectives:
1. To be a respected and influential MPG which acts as a voice for professionals and commands the majority of their support
2. To undertake an effective advocacy programme aimed at employer organisations which promotes major issues and concerns for members
3. To provide a national forum for the frank exchange of views and opinions of concern to members
4. To work and campaign for members in a planned, strategic and effective manner
5. To act as an information service providing members with the knowledge they need to effectively engage with professional issues and concerns
Job description
The IT Officer is responsible for advising the MPG on technical matters and implementing technical solutions (argh! can't believe I used that word - you know what I mean).
The MPG currently has a website (www.museumprofessionalsgroup.org) built using Joomla! Content management system and webmail and backend administration using Plesk, a Facebook page, (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Museum-Professionals-Group/16933417727) and a few Google accounts to use Google Docs. The IT Officer is responsible for maintaining these.
At the current time, the MPG are repositioning themselves, and some thought will be needed as to whether the current website is still required, or whether it needs updating or completely rethinking, especially as the MPG also has a Facebook page. As the MPG decides its future role and aims, the IT Officer will be able to advise on the web technologies it might employ to achieve these aims.
The MPG has recently experimented with web conferencing to allow a committee member to attend a committee meeting remotely, and the MPG is also interested in looking at using web based shared workspaces such as Zoho Projects.
You would need to attend MPG committee meetings (up to 4 per year), and be willing to commit time to discussion and implementation of technology for the MPG. In return, this is an opportunity for you to take a formative role in an organisation that has played an important role in the museum sector for over 70 years, from the development of the code of ethics, to work that led to salary guidelines.
