Dear Jo,
Unfortunately online mobbing, or cyber bullying, has become
widespread all through the web. It is often anonymous, but there are
varying degrees of personal threats.
For a synthesis, including its legal implications, just see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber-bullying
If your brave blog keeps on receiving substantial amounts of abusive
comments, you may consider various alternatives (like moderating it,
or creating a separate sub-blog for insults, even selecting the most
absurd ones and ridicule them, and even identifying common patters of
though and repetitive cliches).
But when entire blogs seem to thrive based just on such a hostility,
then a different kind of legal action may be required. As for
emails, I would not recommend responding to 'anonymous' one.
I know it is a brave and hard task to try to communicate sensible
things when you seem to receive only hostility in return.
All the best and good luck,
Daniele
