artistas y diez contribuciones institucionales.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::REFLEX(IÓN):::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

INFLUX/REFLUX/REFLEX is an initiative by the embassy of spain in
south africa that set out to connect spanish and south african
artists, resulting in a series of workshops and presentations in both
countries. nilo casares (es) and bronwyn lace (za) were engaged in a
joint curatorial role, with invited artists responding to the premise
and itinerant contexts of the project.

over a period of two years the artists met and worked in three
distinct locations, for approximately 20 days each.

the first gathering took place in the karoo (south africa) in october
2008 and was hosted by _map_ (richmond) and _nirox foundation_
(johannesburg), the second in valencia (spain) in september 2009 and
was hosted by _sala parpalló_ and organized by _corsorci de museus de
la comunitat valenciana_ and the third on las palmas de gran canaria
(spain) in march 2010, hosted by _centro de arte la regenta_ and
organized by _casa áfrica_.

the artists were asked to develop and determine the collaboration and
dialogue with one another and with each place.

REFLEX|REFLEXIÓN presents the final phase of this process. spread
across the two years, three distinct locations in two countries, two
curators, seven artists and ten contributing institutions.

INFLUX/REFLUX/REFLEX has been a complex exercise in communication,
negotiation and translation. it is in this process, between gaps,
divergence and common grounds, that sets of conversations have
emerged, which inform the fabric of this exhibition's artistic and
curatorial interventions.

the _johannesburg art gallery_ is located in joubert park and the
entrance is in king george street, off wolmarans or smith, depending
on the direction that you are coming from.
