Dear Esther,

could you please post this in the job section.

Many Thanks,

PhD Position in the information theoretical analysis of brain
connectivity

A PhD position is available at the MEG Unit of the Brain Imaging
Center, Frankfurt, Germany (Head: Michael Wibral).

The successful applicant will use recently developed information
theoretical tools (transfer entropy, see Vicente et al., J Comp
Neurosci 2010) for the analysis of causal interactions in
electro-physiological signals – obtained via invasive recordings or
by MEG source analysis. The applicant will further develop the method
and implement methodological advances in the associated MATLAB Toolbox.

The ideal candidate should have a MSc or comparable degree in physics,
computer science, mathematics or theoretical neuroscience. Applicants
with a background in psychology with a strong interest in information
theory are highly welcome as well. The position will run initially for 18 months,
with the possibility to extend for another 18 month period. The position will start
on the 1st of January 2011.

The neuroscience community in Frankfurt offers a fascinating research environment
where an intense interaction between theoretical (Frankfurt Institute
for Advanced Studies, FIAS) and experimental (Brain Imaging Center,
Max Planck Institute for Brain Research, Ernst Strüngmann Institute)
neuroscience is organized by the Interdisciplinary Center for
Neuroscience (ICNF).

Informal inquiries can be directed to Michael Wibral
([log in to unmask]).

To apply, please send curriculum vitae, letter of interest, names and contact
information of two references to (deadline for applications is
December 15th, 2010):
