Dear all,
This is not a very tecchie question, except that it's about blogs, but I hope
some of you will have ideas....
I'm currently just finishing off the programming for Write Queer London 2011 -
which as the title suggests, is a literary competition about gay lives in
London. We try to chivvy the participants into tackling historical themes by
giving writing workshops in museums across London (four in the pipeline -
www.untoldLondon.org.uk for details, once we've fixed the site, and got our
beans in a row - which should be soon).
I'm interested though, in doing a fifth event on the subject of blogging gay
London history - something that's a bit less of a traditional workshop and more
of a 'jam' - what makes a good blog, how do you find out stuff, what gaps could
you fill in gay history in particular? I'm hoping it will be a way to encourage
people to approach writing history fact in a not-too-academic, non-scary way.
I'm going to talk a bit myself about 'hidden' gay objects on display in the
Museum of London.
Can anyone suggest bloggers who are either on the staff of London museums, or
outside - on gay history or not - who would like to come, show their stuff for
about ten minutes - talk about the writing process, talk about how finding
things out - and compare notes and answer questions? Not paid, but I spect we
could manage some good coffee and nice food! It will be at the Museum of London
and free to participants.
At the end, we would like to dispatch people to the galleries in search of
something to 'blog' and then come back and share 100 - 200 word pieces about
what they've found.
Any thoughts - or offers of your time - gratefully received.
Cheers,
Kate
