Also, what about the software/security restrictions in place on the People's Network that would prevent someone plugging in their e-reader? They could use a memory stick but then if they don't have a computer at home to transfer it on to, which is why they have come in to the library in the first place...

Totally defeats the whole point of e-books from libraries. But then, in my personal view, something like this was pretty certain to happen at some point although I thought it would be more along the lines of either the publishers or sellers of e-books creating a lending format similar to "Love Films". Charge £1.00 a download or a subscription.
