SLA Europe brings together a great panel of speakers on 24 November 2010. In
the first session, Laura Woods and Ned Potter will explore how the
information profession is full of forward thinking professionals sharing
great ideas. But often it feels as though we only ever talk to each other,
and preach to the converted – rather than targeting our marketing resources
at those who are unaware or indifferent to our services. Laura and Ned will
look in detail at the echo-chamber phenomenon; examples of our failure to
escape it, and potential marketing strategies for the future.
In the second part, we will hear from Jo Anderson and Bethan Ruddock talk
about the Voices for the Library campaign and how they are reaching out to
users and stakeholders outside the echo chamber to promote the value of
public libraries. They will talk about how they are working to identify
potential external partners, and the challenges they have faced when trying
to engage with staff, users, and – vitally – non-users.
