Thank you all so much for your quick replies. I actually am a citizen of the EU by virtue of an Irish grandmother. Would I still need to seek a work permit if I hold EU citizenship?

> Hello all - I am an American librarian working in a public library in Sarasota, FL. I am looking for some feedback from UK librarians regarding job qualifications in the UK. I have a master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited (American Library Association) institution. Is there some kind of certificate or licence required to be a librarian in the UK? My goal is to gain employment at a public library in England, ideally in the Manchester area.
