Happy Friday DuraCloud Pilot Partners,

I hope this email finds you all well and enjoying the change in the
seasons! Congratulations and thanks to everyone for helping with the
successful kick-off of the Pilot Program in September.

News:
As many of you are aware, the DuraCloud development team released
version 0.6 of the DuraCloud software in September. For more
information about the release, please see the official press release:
http://expertvoices.nsdl.org/duraspace/2010/09/09/now-available-duracloud-open-source-06/

The DuraCloud Extended Pilot Program officially began in September
with introductory training sessions and DuraCloud testing. Thanks
again to all who attended the demos!

Also in September, DuraSpace Chief Technical Officer, Bradley McLean,
hosted a webinar entitled “DuraSpace Open Integration Architecture: A
Pathway to Interoperation.” The recording from this session is
available on the DuraSpace web site:
http://duraspace.org/resources.php

In October, Michele Kimpton, Chief Business Officer of DuraSpace,
attended the EDUCAUSE Conference and presented on the use of open
source technologies in higher education. The track that she
participated in can be found here:
http://www.educause.edu/E2010/Program/PS008

Events:
The DuraCloud development team will be attending the DLF Fall Forum in
Palo Alto, CA, November 1-3. On Tuesday, November 2nd at 5:45pm PT,
they will be hosting a BOF session entitled “Using cloud
infrastructure and services to build digital solutions." To register,
please visit: http://www.clir.org/dlf/forums/fall2010/index.html

Upcoming:
The DuraCloud development team will be releasing the next version of
DuraCloud software (0.7) in late October. Please keep an eye on your
inbox, as I will email each of you individually when it is time to
upgrade your current DuraCloud instance. DuraCloud 0.7 will include a
new replication on demand service, a fixity service optimized for
large data sets, as well as a client-side retrieval utility tool, to
name just a few features!

For those interested, the DSpace and Fedora use case training sessions
will tentatively be conducted the week of October 18-22. I will be
emailing invitations once the dates are set.

Also later this month will be the debut of the public DuraCloud
newsletter which will feature more broad articles about the cloud and
how DuraCloud is positioning itself in that space.

Partner Spotlight:
The Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research
(better known as ICPSR), is an international consortium of about 700
academic institutions and research organizations that provides
leadership and training in data access, curation, and methods of
analysis for the social science research community. ICPSR maintains a
data archive of more than 500,000 files of research in the social
sciences. During the DuraCloud Pilot Program, ICPSR will be helping to
assess DuraCloud preservation support services and helping the
DuraCloud team gather requirements for a preservation
console/interface. To learn more about ICPSR, please visit:
http://www.icpsr.umich.edu

Don’t Forget:
Please don’t forget to take 10-15 minutes out of your day and complete
the DuraCloud Pricing and Service Level Agreement survey sent to you
by Kim Thanos, our market research consultant. If you did not receive
the survey, please email me immediately! Please complete the survey by
Friday, October 29th.
