APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTING
CALLING ALL LONDON-BASED MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES, ARCHIVES AND HERITAGE
SITES
Dear all,
The Tower of London has teamed up with Bishopsgate Institute to offer
colleagues within the museums, libraries and archives sector a free CPD
opportunity, based on the National Gallery's highly successful 'Take One
Picture' model.
Inspired by the rich history and iconic nature of the Tower of
London’s buildings, and by the world-renowned London collections of
Bishopsgate Institute, our ‘Take One…’ CPD project aims to
demonstrate how museums, libraries, archives and historic sites can use
a single building, object or archival document as the focus for a
cross-curricular approach to the primary curriculum. The training day
will inform museum professionals and volunteers about the ‘Take
One…’ approach, and will provide the appropriate skills and
resources to enable you to deliver ‘Take One…’ within your own
institution.
We hope that this CPD day will form the beginning of a London-wide
‘Take One…’ network, bringing together colleagues from across the
sector in order to share experiences and to support the delivery of
‘Take One…’ projects.
Teachers who attended our recent ‘Take One…’ CPD day commented on
the “inspiring and innovative” nature of the cross-curricular
project, and enjoyed hearing examples of the many different ways in
which a single object can be used to support students’ learning.
Our CPD day takes place on Tuesday 7 December 2010. Places are
strictly limited, so for further information or to book a place please
contact Catherine Jones at the Tower of London
([log in to unmask] or 0203 166 6629). Alternatively, please
complete and return the attached application form. The closing date for
applications is Thursday 25 November 2010. However, please apply early
as places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Best wishes,
Catherine Jones

Historic Royal Palaces is an independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House, Kensington Palace and Kew Palace. Although the palaces are owned by The Queen on behalf of the nation, we receive no funding from the Government or the Crown, so we depend on the support of our visitors, members, donors, volunteers and sponsors. Our aim is to help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society, in some of the greatest palaces ever built.
