The position of Research Associate at Hull is part of a large EPSRC-funded project entitled ‘Low Carbon Shipping: A Systems Approach’ (www.lowcarbonshipping.co.uk). The project is led by UCL, with academic partners from Hull, Newcastle, Strathclyde and Plymouth universities. Industrial partners include Lloyds Register, Rolls Royce, and Maersk.
The successful candidate will give support to Professor Chandra Lalwani in the Logistics Institute and Professor David Gibbs in Department of Geography in carrying out collaborative inter-disciplinary research. The successful candidate will closely with the teams at the partner Universities and also with industry and external organisations.
Applicants should have research experience in an area of logistics, supply chain management, and port logistics. Candidates who can exploit synergies between logistics / supply chains and the port hinterland will have an advantage. The successful candidate will:
• Be able to map supply chains for inbound and outbound logistics from UK ports
• Have an interest in maritime transport, with particular focus on ports and their hinterland
• Pro-actively contribute to the research project and conduct research
• Contribute to the management of the research project
• Prepare reports and papers describing the results of the research for both internal and external publication
• Work positively with colleagues in the research team at the project partner universities, and other
collaborators and partners and support staff on routine matters both inside and outside of the University
• Provide guidance as required to support staff and any project students who may be assisting with the
research
• Demonstrate evidence of own personal and professional development
This post is for a fixed-term for twelve months commencing in January 2011. Salary £25,001.
