Dear All,
There is a general issue which the BPS may need to consider in light
of the aim to "bring psychology to society" which is an integral part
of the logo of the society.
Thus in the field of education, say, teachers may need to be and wish
to be better informed about psychological developments and some might
wish to form an ancillary group associated with the society. Recent
newspaper reports say 7 in 10 wish to resign, so links with the BPS
could be productive.
In the field of community work, there is obvious benefit from a flow
of information to and from the new psychology section. However,
instead of this becoming a sore thumb, it would surely be more
productive to discuss the broader issue of how psychology sections
can relate to and share information and activities with others who
are active and legitimately interested in the same fields.
The community group which meets on Friday morning might come up with
some specific suggestions about this. A formal group of
"correspondents" or "advisers"!! might be one route
with a joint meeting at least once a year. The problem is the venue
in part. I have not received a formal reply (nor an informal reply)
regarding the extension of meetings into the lower floor
of the BPS by means of a screen. You might take that up also. The
BPS President might be approached in person.
I am sorry I am unable to attend myself. I do have a changed
medical appointment, as mentioned recently in correspondence.
Best wishes for a productive couple of meetings.
