It's asking a bit much to expect detectorists to do this stuff which
takes archaeologists years to learn.
The answer, surely, is to teach them to leave the find in the ground and
report it to people who can deal with it properly.
But this isn't going to happen if the archaeological community is
dilatory or rude.
