Dear All,
You are invited to the “Smoking, Advertising and the History of Consumer Culture”, a one day conference taking place on May 18th 2011.
The conference is part of the John Player’s Archive Knowledge Transfer Partnership and will be held at the School of History at the University of Nottingham. It will be a chance for academics and heritage professionals to meet and hear talks based around three main themes: tobacco collections in the heritage sector, tobacco advertising and consumer culture, and public health and smoking habits. Professor Virginia Berridge (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) has kindly agreed to give our keynote speech and after the conference there will be the opportunity to visit the John Player’s Archive exhibition that will be running at the Museum of Nottingham Life from March until June 2011.
Abstracts are welcome around the three themes listed above and beyond, if you have an idea for a paper please do get in touch.
To promote this conference more widely and stimulate interest it would be very kind if you could distribute this call for papers through your networks. If you would like a copy of the flyer for the conference to put up on notice boards etc then please email me at [log in to unmask] and I can forward this on.
If you are keen on attending the conference please RSVP to this email address.
If you have any questions or queries please do contact me.
Kind Regards,
Andy Newnham
