I take this opportunity to introduce myself to the group.
I have been very fortunate to have taken part in the current Action Research workshops taking place at Durban University of Technology with Prof. Jack Whitehead and Prof. Joan Conolly.

What does The ReDress Consultancy do?

The ReDress Consultancy’s primary objective is to invigorate movement towards and improve conditions for the development and sustainability of South Africa’s economic growth. We advance the transfer and application of knowledge related to local and global economic development, industry and society.

Our unique selling points include our independence and our competencies in identifying best-practice solutions in a collaborative manner for our clients’ needs.

Our activities are grounded in a commitment to ethics, accountability and confidentiality. Our clients understand that we will not fudge our research, opinions and recommendations. They trust that our research findings will provide them with methodically gathered and professionally reported information of targeted benefit to their operations.

ReDress has a reputation within the apparel environment that constructively investigates and — when necessary — challenges the complex terrain of policies underpinning trade and industry development and the various role-players within the value-chain. Our voice is widely and regularly monitored by government, industry and the media, which has generated critical and nuanced dialogue around re-evaluating the progress of different sectors contributing to the apparel industry.

Who is Renato Palmi?

Renato Palmi, Director of ReDress, is an established researcher, author and development economist. Focusing on what he calls FASHION-OMICS, he leads coverage of the various economic drivers that influence the clothing, textile and fashion sector, such as: global trade, multi-national clothing companies, government policies, industry representative organisations, educational and skills development institutions, the media, independent designers and other key figures: from the trade-unionist, the sewing machine operator, the retail merchandiser and buyer to marketers, brand developers and consumers.

Offering informative and critical commentary on related economic regeneration issues, Renato has become known as "South Africa's apparel investigator” and a source of astute (and sometimes controversial) observation and analysis of the elements that make up this important industry sector. Several of his evidence-based recommendations have been noted and taken forward by industry organisations and government bodies.
