Lectureship in Quantitative Research Methodology
London School of Economics and Political Science - Methodology Institute
£40,323 up to £46,710 per annum inclusive
The mission of the Methodology Institute is to be a national centre of excellence in social science
methodology. The Institute provides a focus for methodological activities at the School, in
particular in the areas of research student training and methodological research. The Institute is an
interdisciplinary group and its primary role is to facilitate collaboration between departments and to
provide postgraduate training courses, while also fostering methodological excellence in discipline-
based research.
Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Quantitative Research Methodology, a tenure track
position. This is one of two lectureships that the Methodology Institute is currently seeking to fill,
the other post being in the area of qualitative research methods.
The appointment will be from September 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter.
As well as a completed PhD by the post start date the successful candidate will be able to
demonstrate achievement and research potential in any area of the social sciences and/or
methodology of social research, and will have strengths in quantitative research methods that are
used in the empirical social sciences. The successful candidate will have a commitment to high-
quality teaching of methodology at a postgraduate level.
The appointee will be expected to develop an association with one of the academic departments in
the School that shares his or her research or disciplinary interests. Core teaching and administrative
responsibility will be based in the Methodology Institute, but the appointed lecturers will also be
expected to take an active role in the departmental activities of their respective disciplines, activities
which may include affiliation with research centres, participation in disciplinary seminars, co-
supervision of research students in the discipline, and research collaboration. Current staff of the
Methodology Institute have disciplinary connections to the LSE departments of Government,
Social Policy, Sociology, Social Psychology, and Statistics, depending on their backgrounds and
disciplinary training. Applications are not limited to PhDs from these fields, but are open to
candidates from any discipline of the social sciences or empirical research methodology.
