Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a statistician post in the Department of Health Service and Population Research (HSPR) at the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London. The department seeks to find evidence for innovatory and cost-effective treatments and services aimed at improving people’s mental health and enhancing their quality of life. The job holder will play a key role across a wide range of mental health projects in the department, both clinical trials and observational studies. The responsibilities will include advising on study design and analysis, and on psychometric issues such as testing the reliability and validity of questionnaires. In addition to advising research staff, the post holder will take on the analysis of complete data sets, contribute to publications and will be able to develop methodological interests. The main software packages used are SPSS and Stata, with Mplus, R and SAS also available. There will be opportunities for informal teaching of colleagues and formal teaching on MSc courses.
The job holder will be encouraged to form strong links with the Institute’s Department of Biostatistics, and will have the opportunity to attend external training courses, seminars and conferences. Candidates should have an MSc or PhD in statistics or a related subject, and preferably some work experience. Communication skills, familiarity with SPSS and/or Stata and a well-organised and independent personality are essential.
The post is full time for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of extension, commencing as soon as possible.
