Sandy,
Not sure whether Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight is a town or not but
it certainly has an urban feel about it - I was looking at an
excellent ford there last week. The watercourse is much smaller than
at Buckingham and it has a raised path for pedestrians rather than
bridge. The water course follows the road for some length rather than
cutting straight across it as does at Buckingham. The two ends where
the watercourse turns at right angles have good areas of paving below
the water level but the area in-between is stony river bed. It is
quite an attractive urban area but is probably missed by many of the
visitors to the castle. I would suggest a site visit!
Regards
Brian
