Job Title
Research Associate - Bayesian Methods for Metabolomics
Department/Division/Faculty
Section of Biomolecular Medicine / Faculty of Medicine
Salary Range: £26,720 – £38,930 per annum
All appointments will normally be made at the bottom of the salary range
Priority consideration will be given to staff at risk of redundancy
Metabolic profiles report on the levels of hundreds to thousands of low
molecular weight metabolites present in biological samples such as
biofluids and tissues. Levels of many metabolites change in response to
biological stimuli or disease processes and thus are of great biomedical
interest. Despite being rich in information, the profiles are complex
and hard to analyse statistically. A Research Associate position is
available to undertake novel and exciting research, joining an
established team applying Bayesian statistical modelling approaches to
metabolic profile data (metabolomics/metabonomics).
The ongoing BBSRC project ‘Bayesian methods for modelling and
integrating metabolic data’ aims to develop and implement techniques for
modelling metabolic profiles derived from the two primary methods:
nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and liquid
chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). A PhD level bioinformatician
with experience in chemometric data analysis is required to contribute
to the ongoing effort to develop models of these two data types with the
objective of extracting information in form more amenable to statically
modelling and biological interpretation. The successful candidate will
ideally have a bioinformatic/biostatistical background with several
years experience in post-genomic data analysis.
The full time position is offered for a fixed-term of 12 months, and
will be based at the South Kensington campus.
