The *Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ* is a research
institution within the Helmholtz Association. It provides scientific 
contributions to the safeguarding of the natural basis of
life and of human development potentialities for current and future
generations under the challenges of global and climate change. In this 
way the UFZ contributes towards a sustainable development.

The *Department of Economics* invites applications for the position of a

*Senior Researcher (m/f)*
code digit 104/2010

in the field of "International Water Economics and Politics". The
position is available for three years, with the possibility to obtain a 
tenure track, and starting as soon as possible.

We seek a researcher who has advanced experience and skills preferably
in environmental economics or ecological economics. The successful 
candidate will contribute to the above-mentioned
research field by substantial scientific output to the relevant
communities, international networking, and by providing stimulating 
input into the UFZ water group.

Applicants should have methodical expertise in one or several of the
following areas: modelling, valuation, instruments or governance. The 
successful candidate will possess scientific excellence
(demonstrated by internationally reviewed publications), the ability to
acquire, manage and conduct interdisciplinary research projects and be 
capable of communicating results in expert bodies and political consulting.

*Further requirements:*
• a PhD in economics or a related discipline
• profound knowledge of the water sector
• experience in the acquisition and coordination of third-party funded
research projects and international research networks
• readiness to conduct fieldwork (also in developing countries)
• excellent capacities for teamwork and strong communication skills as
well as experience in interdisciplinary work
• fluent command of spoken and written English as well as knowledge of
German

*Desirable is:*
• experience in political consulting, preferably within the water sector
• international research experience (particularly in developing countries)
• involvement in international networks

The place of work is Leipzig, Germany. Salary will be according to the
appropriate civil service level TVÖD, according to the personal 
preconditions up to Entgeltgruppe 14. The UFZ is an equal opportunity
