Barry - I think August was on his way to the Melbourne and Sydney Writers
Festivals. He has been in Australia before, I believe. It wouldn't surprise
me to find John Tranter had a hand in his initial interest in visiting, but
whether that applied this visit I'm not sure.
He was a very good performer - had wit and charm and a relaxed manner
without mumbling his words even with his little 'throwaway' quips. (He'd be
a good stand up comedian in the early Mort Sahl vein.)
