Stepping out of MCG committee/work mode for a moment... I'm running a
game design workshop next Friday (September 10), and there are two
places left so I'd like to invite people from this community to take
part. You don't need to have any specialist skills, but I'm
particularly interested in hearing from potential participants who
like playing games of any sort, from board games to Solitaire on your
computer, Angry Birds on your iPhone or Farmville or World of Warcraft
online.
The workshop is part of my dissertation project which is about
designing interactions to encourage people to create metadata for
museum collections (http://bit.ly/aRQTry) while playing a game. I'll
be building some variations on museum metadata games, hopefully
including ideas from the workshops, over the next few months. I'm not
intending to take exclusive ownership of the ideas generated so
participants would be free to use them in other contexts.
The workshop is to be held on September 10, 10am - 5pm (with a trip to
the pub afterwards for people who don't have to rush for trains), at
City University, London.
As this is a personal project, I'm afraid I can't offer any financial
remuneration, but hopefully participants will find it a rewarding
experience, and a useful insight into the creative process. It might
be particularly good for students or those who want to add something
unusual to their personal development plan at work.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments, or whether
you think you might be able to attend. If you'd like to be involved
but can't make the workshop, I will be looking for game testers at a
later stage, so drop me a line if that sounds like fun.
cheers, Mia
