Have you IFLA'd in 2010? Will you WLIC in Gothenburg? If not, ILIG hopes to be able to help! Join us to find out more about the work of IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) and hear personal experiences of IFLA involvement through the eyes of a 'first-timer' and an 'old-hand'.

Martin Morris, Enquiry Team Librarian at the Central Resources Library in Hatfield and Ayub Khan, Head of Libraries (Strategy) at Warwickshire Library and Information Service will be providing their insights and impressions of IFLA 2010, how they got involved and what it has meant to them. Martin and Ayub will both be attending the 76th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, otherwise known as the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC), which will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, 10 - 15 August 2010.

Martin is a new professional working in public libraries in Hertfordshire whose interests include the use of social software by public libraries to engage with their audiences. He was awarded a CILIP first-timer grant for attendance at Gothenburg.

Ayub is a CILIP Councillor and attended his first IFLA conference in Jerusalem in 2000. He has a strong interest in International Librarianship and was recently elected to the Library Services for Multi Cultural Population standing committee of IFLA. He is also a member of UNESCO's Culture Committee, currently chairs CILIP's Equal Opportunities and Diversity panel and is a past President of the Career Development Group.

We will also remember, with words and a toast, Bob McKee who died during IFLA 2010. Bob was a member of the Governing Board and Executive Committee of IFLA as well as Chief Executive of CILIP.
ILIG informals provide an opportunity for networking and informal discussion so we would like to encourage any IFLA activists, past and present, to join us and share their experiences of IFLA involvement over some light refreshments.

Directions to CILIP: http://www.cilip.org.uk/contact-us/Pages/map.aspx

The access codes for the building are E, G, W, X.

ILIG Informals are not lectures; they are informal, but informative, early evening meetings with a short talk on a theme of international interest plus plenty of time for questions and networking. They are open to all and absolutely free. Light refreshments are served which is why we ask you to let us know you are coming by contacting us by 6th September. We look forward to seeing you.

The International Library and Information Group is a special interest group of CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, registered charity number 313014.
