Expression of Interest
The Section of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development, Department of
Biology, University of Patras, Greece, is seeking potential postdoctoral
partners of any nationality for a joint grant application to fund 2-3
years
research projects in the areas of structural biology and development of
biophysical methods. Experimental work will be carried out at the
University of Patras (http://www.upatras.gr) in collaboration with the
European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (http://www.esrf.eu) and other
European research institutes and pharmaceutical companies. The Research

The ideal postdoctoral candidate should have recently completed (or about
to complete) his/her doctoral thesis in the field of X-ray
crystallography,
biochemistry, biophysics or biology. Knowledge of recombinant protein
expression and purification is highly desirable.
Possible research projects include:
1. Further development of the powder diffraction methods/ algorithms and
combined use of X-ray diffraction with NMR and confocal microscopy.
Establishment of an experimental platform for drug screening.
2. Investigation of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions and
dynamics via X-ray diffraction, NMR and live-cell imaging in order to
identify new molecular targets related to proteins of high pharmaceutical
interest (HARP, RNA emerging virus proteins) for use in antiviral and
cancer-related drugs.
